At first sight, Fairmont hotel may not be the most beautiful building in Monaco, but when you hear the story and understand the purpose of the construction, you might see the hotel design in a whole new perspective – I know I did!
Due to flight delays I arrived late in the evening, and was welcomed by a very helpful staff. I went straight to bed, only distracted by the nice box of chocolate waiting for me in my room. After all it would be rude not to taste it – right?
Next day, after a beautiful breakfast buffet with everything your heart desires and a spectacular sea view, I was greeted by the lovely Mrs. Batthyany – Head of communication. She gave me a virtual cruise around the hotel.
I learned that Fairmont hotel is built on water. Literally on a cliff. This means when you are in rooms, or parts of the hotel with sea view, you will feel that you are on a ship… A cruise ship that you dont´want to leave, even though you are in a beautiful city. I was spellbound by the stories, and all the effort put into this Hotel.
It´s a place for both business and pleasure, but the hotel are very much aware that tourist doesn’t necessarily want to see working people, and working people doesn’t need to see people enjoying their holidays. That’s why people attending meetings, workshops etc. can enter from another entrance, and that way mind their own “business”.
I enjoyed lunch in the famous Saphir24 restaurant. The restaurant is open 24 hours, which means that if you have attended one of the many events hosted at the Fairmont, you can grab a bite no matter what time it is. As many of you know, I just need a Caesar salad and a glass of cold white wine to be satisfied, and was not disappointed.
After lunch I walked around the hotel on my own, taking pictures of all the details. This place is certainly a place for both indoor and outdoor activity. During the summer breakfast is served at the beautiful Horizon restaurant. And do not miss afternoon drinks at this place. Can I just say wow…
I absolutely adore the rooftop pool. It´s 30 degrees 365 day a year, and it has ( if not the best) one of the best views in Monaco. It’s just breathtaking. During the summer, starting mid April, the rooftop turns into Nikki Beach and therefore has a lot going on. Lovely food, happy people, great music and with a little luck a lot of sunshine. You will know where to find me this summer.
Oh and let´s not forget about the Formula 1. I dare to say, that durng this time, there is no better place to experience this than Fairmont Monaco. You are actually on and next to the course. Rumours say that you can feel the engines of the cars when you are in some of the rooms.
Finally this place has the best location ever. You are in walking distance to the beach, the Grimaldi Forum, Metropole shopping, the big casino and a lot of great restaurants.
…. of everything.
